BLAST CLEANING IS A PROCESS USED TO CLEAN SURFACES OR PREPARE SURFACES FOR FURTHER PROCESSING USING PARTICLES OF ABRASIVE THAT ARE PROPELLED AT HIGH SPEED BY COMPRESSED AIR. THE ABRASIVE IS DIRECTED THROUGH A NOZZLE AIMED AT THE SURFACE TO BE CLEANED.
There is a general belief within Australia that “sand blasting” is the process used to strip metal within our industry. However the use of sand has been prohibited for many years due to OH&S concerns and has been replaced by various specialised techniques that are used dependent on the item you wish to blast. At the blast factory we have the correct blast media for every requirement. We pride ourselves on our ability to determine our customers’ needs and provide the appropriate process to achieve the best result.

Abrasive blasting will not cause any harm to the work piece as long as the correct process is used to clean the article. For example, plastic media blasting should be used on auto panels and glass bead blasting used for stainless steel. The surface of the item will not be harmed if the correct abrasive particle size is used.
Blast cleaning is not just about cleaning rusty components, it is often used to prepare new components for painting, powder coating, rubber bonding, electroplating etc. The finished article after blasting provides a better surface for coatings to bond to and can greatly increase the life of the coating.
Even many plastic parts can be blast cleaned e.g. Plastic bumper bars, auto trim panels, motorcycle fairings etc.
